TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : 10 Months

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • North Carolina Professional Educator's License in the area of Welding (Area 74080).
  • Interested individuals without this license but with a Bachelor's or Associate degree in a related area (or a High School Diploma/GED) should visit the following link for more information regarding the alternative licensure process:

    Qualifying for a CTE Provisional License in Welding
    • Two years of related work experience required for those with a Bachelor's degree.
    • Four years of related work experience required for those with an Associate's degree.
    • Six years of related work experience required for those with a High School Diploma/GED.

POSITION SUMMARY :
The educator will deliver rigorous classroom and shop instruction in SMAW (stick), GMAW (MIG), GTAW (TIG), oxy-fuel cutting, and plasma cutting while maintaining a safe, industry-standard laboratory facility.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :

  • Ability to constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students, particularly when the student is participating in an inclusive activity.
  • Ability to motivate students and to maintain order and discipline in a classroom.
  • Ability to maintain a clean and orderly environment.
  • Ability to perform general clerical duties, including operating common office machines and maintaining basic files and records.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
  • Ability to use a wide variety of technology in the classroom.
  • Ability to create and follow rigorous lesson plans that correlate with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study .

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. This list is meant to be representative and not exhaustive.   • CTE-Specific Responsibilities
    • Instructional Delivery :
      Teach NC CTE Welding Technology standards and AWS-aligned curricula to prepare students for post-secondary technical education, apprenticeships, or direct entry into the workforce.
    • Lab Management & Safety :
      Enforce strict shop safety protocols, personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, ventilation system maintenance, and proper storage of industrial gases and consumables.
    • Technical Instruction :
      Train students in blueprint reading, weld inspection, metallurgy, thermal cutting, and precision metal fabrication.
    • Student Organization Leadership :
      Serve as the advisor for the school’s SkillsUSA chapter, coaching students for regional, state, and national welding competitions.
    • Workforce & Advisory Connections :
      Collaborate with local manufacturing employers, shipyards, trade unions, and local advisory boards to establish student career pipelines and industry partnerships.
  • Instructional Process
    • Plans and implements a program of instruction that adheres to the district's philosophy, goals, and objectives as outlined in the North Carolina Standard Course of Study .
    • Makes purposeful and appropriate lesson plans that provide for effective teaching strategiesand maximize time on task.
