Core Accountabilities:

To assist and support the Exceptional Children's (EC) teacher in the program delivery for all EC students.

Responsibilities:
  • Assists teaching students along the special education continuum. Teaching structure will be a combination of co-taught, small group, and one-on-one and could be "push in" or "pull out," depending on student needs.
  • Assist with planning and management for students that require more intense support.
  • Presents subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers, using agreed upon methods of delivery (whole groups, small groups, and/or individual support).
  • Assists with checking materials and portfolios, correcting papers, supervising, and testing as directed by the teacher.
  • Assists with student attendance procedures, record keeping, collecting money, organizing classroom learning spaces, and ordering materials.
  • Prepares lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, and demonstrations for their assigned classroom(s).
  • Assist with consultations for students identified but not receiving direct services.
  • Assessment of student needs and progress monitoring.
  • Support teachers with differentiation strategies in the classroom.
  • Promote the inclusive values and mission of the school within the department through a multidisciplinary team approach.
  • Promote use of assistive/adaptive technologies.
  • Keep up-to-date on curriculum developments and trends in the field of exceptional children.
  • Commitment for professional growth through participation in professional learning communities and development opportunities.
  • Actively engage parents in educational advocacy for their children.
  • Engage in, develop programming for, and be willing to lead professional development offerings.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of, and support for, East Wake Academy's mission, vision, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and ethical code of behavior.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Essential Knowledge:
  • Belief in the mission and vision of the school and a commitment to support East Wake Academy in reaching and maintaining our mission and vision.
  • Strong organizational and critical thinking skills, perseverance, and flexibility in solving challenges.
  • Demonstrate a passion for the education profession and supporting student achievement.
  • Evidence of effective teaching experience, especially in working with students with exceptionalities.
  • High level of professionalism
Education and Experience:
  • High school Diploma or equivalent.
  • Associates degree in teaching or related field.
  • CPR and/or First aid certified.
  • Two or more years of experience
