Position: Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in North Wilkesboro, NC
Location: North Wilkesboro

Make a meaningful impact in students lives by supporting communication and language development as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing. This contract opportunity is based in North Wilkesboro, NC, where you ll serve students 2 days per week (16 hours weekly) from August 17th, 2026, through June 4th, 2027. In this role, you will work within educational settings to foster academic growth and ensure accessibility for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.

Qualifications

and

Experience:
  • Hold a current NC Deaf/Hard of Hearing teaching license
  • Relevant experience providing instructional support or classroom teaching to students with hearing loss, preferably in a school environment
  • Strong understanding of various communication modes, assistive technologies, and language acquisition strategies
  • Ability to adapt instructional materials and teaching methods to meet individual student needs
  • Skilled in collaborating with educators, specialists, and families to develop and implement effective learning plans
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct and consultative services to students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing in both individual and small group settings
  • Assess student progress and contribute to Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) as needed
  • Support classroom teachers by suggesting accommodations and modifications to enhance accessibility
  • Foster language and communication skills through targeted instruction and support
  • Serve as a resource for students, staff, and families about Deaf culture and auditory access
