Must be at least 18 years of age & have a high school diploma/GED
Must have 1 of the 3 qualifications below:
- Bachelor’s Degree with a 2.5 GPA from an accredited college or university
- Effective Teacher’s Certificate from an accredited community college.
- Teaching License

There are two classifications of Substitute Teachers:
- A certified substitute is one who holds a clear teaching license from N.C. The pay rate for this classification is $
144 per day before taxes - A non-certified substitute refers to an individual who has completed an effective teacher training course or holds a bachelor's degree. The pay rate for this classification is $
120 per day before taxes
Job Description:
- The substitute teacher covers giving instructions and organizing the classroom environment to enhance student learning during the period of absence of the regular classroom teacher.
- Direct the learning procedure in the direction of accomplishing curriculum objectives and goals as implied in the lesson plans for projects, lessons, or units assigned.
- Make use of instructional procedures and materials which are most suitable for attaining lessons goals.
- Adhere to all procedures, guidelines, and policies followed by regular classroom teachers in line with recommended teaching procedures.
- Ensure a sustainable relationship with parents, students, school personnel, and members of the public by communicating in a confidential, polite, and refined manner.
All substitute teachers are approved during our monthly school board meeting usually held on the second Tuesday of every month. We will contact you by phone or email once you have been approved.
All new substitutes are required to attend a mandatory substitute training with RCS before their 1st day of work.
Training will be conducted with Tina Pearson McNeill once you are approved by the school board.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT :
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires sitting, walking, and standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment. Work in this classification is considered light physical work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
Employment will require an extensive background check.
