Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred. The Dean must be qualified to teach in a program area at a North Carolina Community College.
  • Minimum of 5–10 years of progressively responsible experience in higher education, or a comparable field, including academic leadership, supervision, or program administration.
  • Experience in curriculum development, program review, and instructional operations in a college or university setting, preferably a community college.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, academic resources, and operational functions within instructional programs.
  • Knowledge of accreditation standards, institutional effectiveness processes, and state/federal compliance requirements.
  • Experience with supervision, evaluation, mentoring, and professional development.
  • Ability to use data and institutional research to support decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across departments and governance structures.
  • Commitment to student success, equity, and fostering a positive, student-centered academic environment.

The Dean of Instruction–Curriculum Compliance is a senior academic leader within the Division of Instruction and Student Services and reports directly to the Vice President of Instruction and Student Services. This position provides division-wide leadership with primary responsibility for instructional compliance, accreditation, academic policy implementation, fiscal oversight, operational integrity, and institutional effectiveness.

The Dean of Instruction–Curriculum Compliance works in close collaboration with the Dean of Instruction–Curriculum to ensure coordinated leadership across academic programs and instructional operations. While the Dean of Instruction–Curriculum leads curriculum design, instructional quality, and academic innovation, the Dean of Instruction–Curriculum Compliance maintains primary authority for compliance, administrative processes, resource management, and accountability systems. Both Deans share responsibility for strategic planning, policy implementation, and decision-making in alignment with institutional priorities.

Division

Leadership & Governance Responsibilities:
  • Serve as liaison to the Vice President of Instruction & Student Services and represent the division in academic, executive, and institutional matters.
  • Lead regular division and department meetings and ensure effective communication, collaboration, and alignment across programs.
  • Engage in program planning and development by recommending, revising, or expanding programs based on institutional priorities, workforce needs, and emerging trends.
  • Support Advisory Committees and incorporate their input into curriculum and programmatic decisions.
  • Lead onboarding, support, and ongoing mentorship of faculty members within the division.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President of Instruction & Student Services on college-wide curriculum standards, academic initiatives, and instructional priorities.
