An instructor’s primary responsibility is to maintain excellence in instructing students in the cosmetology program to attain student learning outcomes. In addition to primary responsibilities, instructors will complete classroom administrative duties and support the goals of WCC through committee service and professional development.

• Teach courses in the cosmetology program, including basic and advanced hairstyling, salon management, cosmetician science, nail technology, esthetics, instructor training, and fashion concepts.
• Model student expectations such as effective communication, dependability, critical thinking, positive customer service, and leadership.
• Assist the coordinator with salon retail operations, including payment transactions, deposits, and supply management.
• Enforce safety regulations and North Carolina Board of Cosmetic Arts policies.
• Support the college’s commitment to enhancing student learning by encouraging critical thinking skills through professional development activities.
• Facilitate scheduled theory classes and safety and infection control instruction.
• Provide practical demonstration and instruction.
• Maintain student records, including practice completion, grades, evaluations, and attendance.
• Maintain a secure testing environment and inventory of supplies and equipment.
• Travel to local high schools and community events to present the program.
• Facilitate high‑school theory, practice, and evaluations.
• Evaluate students’ learning progress and contribute to curriculum improvements.
• Assist the coordinator with state board test instruction and mock testing.
• Ensure all procedures are completed safely and according to evaluation plans.
• Maintain a clean working environment and attend scheduled professional development activities.
• Maintain current knowledge of NC Board of Cosmetic Arts rules and regulations.

• Current North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Arts license.
• Instructor License issued by the NC Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners (for more information visit ).

• At least 2 years of experience as a licensed cosmetologist.
• Prior classroom teaching experience.

Work is performed primarily under general supervision in an office or classroom with appropriate climate controls. Travel, early morning, evening, and weekend work may be required.

Essential functions:

lifting, manual dexterity, communication, ability to sit/stand for long periods, mobility between classrooms and buildings, expression of ideas, good eye/hand coordination.

Light work: lifting or carrying up to 10 pounds, frequent lifting up to 20 pounds, walking, standing, and some pushing/pulling of arms or legs.

Mental application: utilizes memory for details and content, verbal instructions, emotional stability, critical thinking, adaptability, and creative problem-solving skills.

$15 per hour without instructor course, $26.38 per hour for Associates Degree.
