East Wake Academy is always seeking for confident and experienced Substitutes to join our
team. If you are a friendly and competent professional with interest in education, then we’re
interested in you. Your duties will include facilitating classroom activities, assigning
classwork/homework as noted by the teacher and managing classroom behaviors.
To excel in this role, you should have knowledge of effective teaching practices that ensure
learning is a comfortable and meaningful experience. Our ideal candidate has excellent
interpersonal and organizational skills, with a strong command of the English language.
Substitute Teacher Responsibilities:
- Adhere to the curriculum and lesson plans assigned by the regular teacher.
- Follow procedures and achieve lesson goals.
- Assign and explain classwork/homework.
- Oversee students outside of the classroom including in the hallways and transitioning
- between classes.
- Comply with all school regulations and policies at all times.
- Take attendance and document daily notes.
- Ensure classroom and work is kept clean and orderly.
- Oversee the normal classroom rhythms and activities.
- Compile a report for the teacher for when he/she returns.
- Substitute Teacher Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Bachelor’s degree in Teaching is preferred.
- EWA Substitute Training Attendee
- Must be detail oriented and able to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- Balancing. Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling and walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. This factor is important if the amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.

- Walking. Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
- Pushing. Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
- Pulling. Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
- Lifting. Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. Maximum Weight 50lbs Average Weight 20lbs.
- Fingering. Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
- Grasping. Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
- Feeling. Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
