JOB DESCRIPTION Exceptional Children Teacher Assistant

Job Summary:

To assist in assessing and providing quality instruction and learning opportunities for exceptional children through a variety of settings and instructional procedures, according to the essential functions listed below.

Essential Functions:

1. Assist in planning/implementing instruction for students identified as exceptional.

2. Assist in maintaining exceptional children’s paperwork required by state and federal guidelines.

3. Accompany students to the nurse assistant’s office for medication and other health issues.

4. Assist in daily instruction to self-contained and resource students.

5. Assist with the maintenance of adaptive communication equipment and other specialized equipment related to the exceptional children’s program at PCMS.

6. Assist in the identification of specific needs of the exceptional children’s program, including providing input regarding instructional materials to meet IEP and state assessment goals.

7. Attend exploratory classes with students according to master schedule assignments.

Other Functions:

1. Other duties as assigned by the principal.

Education, Experience, and

Skills Required:

1. Prior experience working with children with special needs preferred

Terms of Employment: 10 months – Teacher Assistant Salary Scale

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of Board of Education policy, North Carolina statutes, and goals established by the Principal.

Environmental Factors:

This position requires some lifting, frequent walking, dealing with personal hygiene and toileting issues with students according to class population needs.
