Physics​/Astronomy Instructor

Sustain high quality teaching performance in Physics and Astronomy discipline including appropriate course loads. This load may include seated, hybrid, and online classes with day and evening course assignments which may include courses at any campus location or at any area high school. Physics instruction is required, preferred that the candidate is also qualified to teach astronomy and/or math (18 graduate hours in subject area needed).

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
:

• Maintain mastery and currency in the field.
• Market, recruit, and retain students in all college programs
• Advising students in the areas/programs assigned.
• Perform record-keeping functions in the areas of assessment, attendance, and student performance in an accurate and timely manner.
• Ensure compliance and confidentiality with all policies and procedures of the College, NC Community College System, and applicable State and Federal agencies.
• Responsible for the physics and astronomy lab spaces, including maintaining equipment, ordering supplies, and lab safety.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities
:

• Participate in a wide variety of extra-curricula committee and campus support functions to include: scholarships, grants, campus marketing, accreditation, inter-institutional and system cooperative programs.
• Program planning and support of Institutional Effectiveness plan.
  
  Participates in assessment efforts to ensure student learning outcomes in courses taught are developed and assessed, and assessment activities related to program learning outcomes to ensure prompt reporting on related PLO maps.
• Maintain working relationships with all college employees while at the same time demonstrating sensitivity to and respect for a diverse population.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education: Must have Master’s Degree in Physics, Astronomy, or a master’s degree in a closely related field with 18 graduate hours in the discipline.
Experience
: A minimum of two years of teaching experience, or relevant professional experience in a workplace setting or demonstrated instructional/teaching environment.

• Flexible schedule- is available in the evenings and on weekends as needed.

Physical Demands
:
The ability to perform all duties associated with the position including, but not limited to lifting, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated tools and machines.
