Structural Engineer

I am replacing and expanding a deck to commercial standards that is a large seating/event area on one side and then wraps around to the other side. The large part of the deck is 50x22 and the wrap around is 12ft out from the building and wraps around the other side back to the driveway grade. The height of the deck is 9ft off the ground.

The existing deck is 6ft along the side and 10ft across the back. I need one span to be wide enough for a single ADA parking space underneath in front of the double doors on the bottom. County says I can be B2 Business and not assembly classification. I am located at 390 Nuwati Way, Bryson City, NC 28713 (close to Asheville).

• Q: Are you completely demolishing the existing deck? What type of structure is the current building?

  A: The deck going back up will be wood. The house is concrete block on the bottom floor where the deck would attach. Obviously looking to be cost effective, but open to Glulams if need be vs doubling 2x10's, etc. I d like to run the joists parallel to the house to make fewer butt joints on the deck and it last longer.

  A: Yes, demolishing the whole deck. Current deck columns were not set in footers, so pulled it all off as can see in attached photo.
