Location: Calabash

A well-established heavy civil contractor in the coastal region of North Carolina is seeking an experienced Estimator to join their team. This firm specializes in large-scale site development, utilities, roadway, and earthwork projects. The ideal candidate has strong takeoff and bid preparation skills, is detail-oriented, and can work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare accurate and competitive estimates for sitework, earthwork, utilities, and infrastructure projects.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs using digital estimating software and/or CAD files.
  • Analyze project plans, specifications, and requirements to determine scope of work.
  • Develop detailed cost breakdowns, including labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractor pricing.
  • Communicate with vendors and subcontractors to secure competitive pricing.
  • Prepare bid proposals and support senior management during bid reviews.
  • Assist with build-out of project budgets, schedules, and procurement planning after award.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of local market pricing, production rates, and regional conditions.
  • Collaborate with project managers and field teams to ensure continuity between estimating and project execution.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil construction (sitework, utilities, or earthwork preferred).
  • Proficiency with HCSS Heavy Bid, Agtek, or similar estimating/takeoff platforms (preferred but not required).
  • Strong ability to read and interpret civil drawings and technical specifications.
  • Solid understanding of construction means, methods, production rates, and cost components.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred but not required.
