Manufacturing Engineer
The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for improving the performance, reliability, and capability of manufacturing equipment and tooling across roll forming, press operations, automation, and assembly processes. This role leads the design, improvement, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems to reduce downtime, improve quality, and increase overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
Through hands‑on problem solving and data‑driven analysis, this role identifies and resolves equipment and process issues, enhances system capability, and supports new product introduction. The position also leads capital projects, supports automation integration, and ensures equipment and tooling solutions are robust, efficient, and scalable. Working cross‑functionally with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams, this position plays a critical role in driving sustainable performance improvements and alignment on continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities- Design, develop, and improve tooling and equipment across roll forming, press operations, and assembly processes.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors on tooling design, procurement, and implementation.
- Optimize machine setups, changeovers, and tooling performance to reduce downtime and scrap.
- Ensure equipment and tooling readiness for new product integration.
- Identify and eliminate equipment issues impacting uptime, quality, or safety.
- Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for mechanical failures.
- Support preventive and predictive maintenance strategies through equipment analysis and design improvements.
- Drive continuous improvement in OEE and equipment reliability.
- Support implementation, troubleshooting, and optimization of automated systems.
- Collaborate with controls and automation engineers to ensure proper system integration.
- Improve performance of conveyors, robotics, sensors, and automated handling systems.
- Identify automation opportunities to improve safety, quality, and productivity.
- Provide hands‑on engineering support to production to resolve equipment and process issues.
- Conduct structured root cause analysis using data and observation.
- Improve process capability by addressing mechanical variation and system limitations.
- Analyze equipment and process data to identify trends and opportunities.
- Support layout improvements with focus on equipment placement, accessibility, and material handling efficiency.
- Ensure proper integration of machinery, tooling, and automation within the production areas.
- Assist in capacity planning based on equipment capability and constraints.
- Lead and support capital equipment and process improvement projects from concept through execution.
- Develop equipment specifications and evaluate technical solutions.
- Coordinate with vendors, integrators, and internal stakeholders to ensure successful implementation.
- Evaluate cost, performance, and ROI of engineering solutions.
- Create and maintain equipment drawings, tooling documentation, and technical standards.
- Develop setup procedures, troubleshooting guides, and maintenance documentation.
- Read, interpret, and update CAD models and engineering drawings as needed.
- Work effectively with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and Engineering teams.
- Build strong partnerships to align equipment performance, reliability, and continuous improvement.
- Perform all other duties & special projects assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical (preferred), Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering.
- 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience, with significant exposure to roll forming and press processes.
- Proficiency in CAD software (Solid Works, AutoCAD) and familiar with Lean tools.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills; able to work independently.
- Experience with roll forming mills and tooling design (flower design, pass progression, cutoff tooling).
