This position is in Triad Asset Design Group. The Asset Design Team designs and oversees the design of Substation Optimization Projects and Large Customer Work. This position requires field visits to review and discuss scope of work with the engineering firms and contractor managers. This position requires working with many teams including Off Site Engineering Firms, Contractor Managers, Project Managers, Project Controls, Asset Management Team, Zone Engineering, R&I Engineers, and Line workers.

The position supports storms in both the Triad Area and may be required to travel to other locations within the Duke Energy Systems and off‑systems sites.

Engineering Technologist III is the third level of the non‑Engineer degreed technical support role job classification. Engineering Technologist III provide technical expertise to solve more complex problems and leadership skills to provide oversight and direction of work in a specific area of expertise, with limited supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with a high degree of independence.

Senior Engineering Technologist is the fourth level of the non‑Engineer degreed technical support role job classification and considered the career level for the job hierarchy. Senior Engineering Technologist provide technical expertise to solve more complex problems, and leadership skills to manage work in a specific area of expertise, with minimal supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently with increased latitude for unreviewed work.

• Applies technical expertise in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems in area of expertise
• Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities
• Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches with some guidance
• Conducts engineering and related studies
• Strives to continually improve job‑related, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance
• Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities
• Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills
• Maintains accurate records and files
• Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally

• Either 2+ years of relevant industry experience coupled with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or 4+ years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or 6+ years equivalent experience without a degree

• Either 4+ years of relevant industry experience coupled with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or 6+ years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or 8+ years equivalent experience without a degree

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology
• Good written and oral communication skills
• Experience in the utility industry
• Able to effectively apply basic principles of project management
• Experience using Maximo/BOUD
