Project Environmental Coordinator (Contract-to-Hire)

We are seeking a Project Environmental Coordinator for a contract-to-hire opportunity supporting a major construction project in Semora, NC. This role is responsible for assisting project management and field teams in maintaining environmental compliance throughout all phases of construction. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of environmental regulations, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with craft personnel, subcontractors, and project leadership.

Key Responsibilities- Support project management with environmental compliance initiatives.
- Assist in implementing and maintaining the Site Environmental Management Plan.
- Conduct daily environmental site inspections and prepare inspection reports and logs.
- Assist with environmental permit management and compliance requirements.
- Help coordinate corrective actions for identified compliance deficiencies.
- Support spill response activities, mitigation efforts, and incident documentation.
- Assist with environmental orientation and training for project personnel.
- Monitor subcontractor environmental commitments and ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Assist with waste storage, handling, transportation, and disposal in accordance with applicable regulations.
- Monitor petroleum storage areas, including fuel tanks, drums, lubricants, and other petroleum products.
- Support wildlife protection efforts, including animal and endangered species management as required.
- Assist with environmental recordkeeping and oversight of material storage, including flammable storage cabinets.
- Perform additional environmental duties as assigned to support project objectives.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with construction craft personnel, subcontractors, supervisors, and project management.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Advanced environmental or technical training preferred.
- Working knowledge of construction site environmental compliance requirements, including:
- Stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs)
- Spill prevention and response
- Wetlands protection
- Process water management
- Waste management and disposal
- Petroleum and fuel storage compliance
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Previous environmental compliance experience on industrial, heavy civil, power, manufacturing, or large commercial construction projects.
- Familiarity with federal, state, and local environmental regulations applicable to construction projects.
