As an Amazon Critical Infrastructure Engineer, you will provide full life‑cycle support to AWS Data Centers from design inception through site improvement and maintenance. You will be the ‘go to’ engineering resource for your region when technical advice is needed, and will use your subject matter expertise and engage with diverse teams to:
- troubleshoot, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and create Corrective Action (CA) documentation for site/equipment failures;
- directly support operational issues with ad‑hoc training, complex operating procedure reviews, including critical equipment, and event support;
- own the conceptual design for existing data center upgrades and design‑solutions, which add capacity, improve availability, increase efficiency and sustainability;
- interface with internal data center operations team, data center design engineering team, server hardware team, environmental health and safety team to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in services delivered;
- develop innovative solutions for AWS’s data centers;
- work on concurrent projects, sometimes in multiple geographical regions;
- initiate and lead engineering audits including on‑site visits within Amazon’s data centers, producing reports outlining risks with recommended mitigations and remediations;
- act as resident engineer during new construction projects, supporting construction, commissioning, and turnover.
Key job responsibilities:
- lead projects to fit out our data centers to meet ever‑evolving customer needs as we continue expanding our fleet to hyper‑scale;
- provide recommendations despite uncertainty/ambiguity using strong engineering judgment;
- communicate clearly with writing and speaking, maintain high quality standards, set priorities, meet deadlines and budgets;
- lead and problem‑solve across teams;
- be detail and data oriented;
- supply engineered solutions to problems;
- manage engineering projects and consultants;
- build trust and relationships with stakeholders (Operations, Controls, Construction, Design, Commissioning, Product Managers, Technical Program Managers);
- adapt to field work and be inclined to see things up close.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent;
- 3+ cumulative years of experience with industrial, municipal, or commercial engineering, including but not limited to data centers, power generation, oil/gas facilities;
- Valid US driver's license and reliable personal transportation by start date.
- Experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission‑critical facilities, especially data centers;
- Experience as resident engineer or hands‑on (in the field) design consultant or owner’s engineer;
- Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, submittal documents, and applicable building codes;
- Ability to carry design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment/mass production;
- Basic understanding of mechanical and/or electrical equipment/design related to data centers (e.g., uninterruptable power sources, diesel generators, electrical switch gear, power distribution units, variable frequency drives, automatic/static transfer switches, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, heat exchangers, CRAHs, fans, air economizers, water treatment);
- Data analytics skills, data querying language, scripting, and comfort working with large volumes of data in new and evolving environments.

The base salary range for this position is USD – per year, located in Hamlet, NC. The Amazon package includes sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
