The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) implements regulatory programs that protect air, water, and public health while advancing an energy strategy aligned with state needs.
Description of WorkThis position reviews applications, engineering reports, and engineering drawings/specifications; provides construction management for DEMLR projects; and serves as a liaison with municipalities, consulting engineers, the public, interest groups, and the Division.
Key Responsibilities- Review applications and complete timely, detailed reviews of engineering plan submittals.
- Ensure timely, detailed review of engineering drawings and specifications for compliance with federal and state laws, rules, and policies, and good engineering practices.
- Perform inspections of sites/facilities.
- Advise and provide engineering guidance and written technical/compliance documentation to staff and clients.
- Meet with applicants and their consultants to facilitate project development, design, construction, and ultimately permit approval and site compliance.
Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special QualificationMay require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
Other RequirementsA valid driver’s license is required.
RecruitmentSalary range: $57,983 – $67,983.
Work ArrangementHybrid telework option available, with routine office and remote workdays.
