Environmental Health and Safety Specialist
Pay rate to candidate is $60.00/hr
Agency Do Not Exceed Rate $83.39
Primary Function:
Provide technical knowledge and support to the manufacturing departments ensuring that the plant is operated in a safe and environmentally sustainable manner with regard to all federal, state, local, and corporate environmental and safety regulations. Also provide leadership to the site for compliance with Eaton's Management System for Environmental Safety, Security, and Health (MESH).
Essential Functions:
- Environmental:
- Prepares and submits all required environmental permit applications/renewals and routine agency reports, e.g., air emissions, water and waste water, hazardous/toxic waste, spills and releases, hazardous material/substance inventories
- Manages all plant waste disposal activity to ensure compliance with applicable regulations
- Develops/maintains plant emergency response plans and ensures drills are performed to document plan effectiveness. May serve as the plant emergency coordinator
- Reviews plant environmental permits and ensures terms and conditions are understood and complied with, ensures required documentation is maintained and required regulatory reports are submitted to the respective agency, e.g., air discharge permits, storm water discharge permits, local waste water permits
- Evaluates proposed projects and proposed new chemicals and ensures plans are in-place and implemented to address EHS compliance issues
- Coordinates the plant's MESH compliance. Administers and monitors plant safety and environmental compliance with federal and state legislation and ISO 14001. Serves as emergency coordinator of Hazardous Waste and bulk oil chemical spill containment program; as well as coordinator for the emergency response involving workplace violence
- Ensures required employee environmental training is completed on time and documented
- May perform training
- Participates in the Corporate EHS assessment process. Develops and implements plant programs, policies and procedures to conform with Eaton EHS mandates, e.g., MESH
- Investigates environmental incidents/accidents to determine root causes and prepares and implements corrective action plans
- Coordinates and assists with corporate initiatives, participating on teams in order to drive best practices across Eaton Corp.
- Comply with OSHA requirements for all workplace practices
- Model the Eaton ethical conduct policy, the Eaton Values and Philosophy, and comply with all other corporate, plant, and regulatory policies and regulations as applicable
- Health & Safety:
- Develops/maintains all required written safety plans, e.g., Hearing Conservation, PPE
- Ensures all required plant safety inspections are performed and documented, e.g., fire extinguishers, fire risers, emergency response equipment, safety showers, eye wash stations, emergency lights, ladders, housekeeping and that corrective actions are completed for identified deficiencies
- Assists in the performance of accident and near-miss investigations and ensures root causes are identified and corrective actions implemented
- Ensures the MSDS database is up-to-date for all materials
- Serve as chairperson for plant MESH leadership Team and provides guidance and resources to MESH Team (formerly safety team)
- Ensures risk assessments are performed and are current and perform analysis as required
- Ensures required employee health and safety training is completed on time and documented
- Compiles required safety performance metric data for the Country specific injury/illness log and for reporting to government agencies and MESH PRISM
- Coordinates the IH hazard assessment and monitoring program for measuring and documenting employee exposures
- Supports and/or directs the plant's health and safety management system, e.g., VPP, 18000, ISRS or country equivalent
- Ensure compliance with MESH requirements including Management of Change
- Drives and promotes zero incident EHS culture throughout site
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in the field of EHS in a manufacturing plant environment
