The Tooling Engineer will be responsible for developing tooling from order to delivery, working with the Tooling - Engineering Manager, Quality, and Operations team. Delivery of successful tooling to achieve high first-pass yield.
Responsibilities:- Design, simulate, sample, and maintain foundry tooling (patterns, core boxes, and fixtures/gages) to meet all customer requirements utilizing customer-supplied part geometry and specifications.
- Knowledge of foundry processes, including green sand molding and a basic understanding of ductile iron metallurgy.
- Advanced knowledge of GD&T
- Understanding and basic use of CAD
- Work with outside tooling vendors, including quoting, project management, and inspection of received tooling
- Design and create drawings for CNC machine fixtures for various machining cells
- Reading and understanding customer blueprints
- Assist with CMM fixturing for inspection
- Ability to generate CMM inspection programs (Calypso & PCDMIS)
- Assist with the layout/measurement of tooling and parts using CMM and 3D scanner
- Develop in-process gauging for production
- Understand and conduct GR&R
- Willing to work "hands-on" when needed to assist foundry sampling programs
- Other duties as assigned by Management
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- Solid Works or similar CAD experience required
- Must be able to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
- Able to work flexible hours as needed
- Ability to work in extreme heat
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field
- Foundry Experience a Plus
- Working knowledge of APQP and PPAP for automotive desired
- Minimum 2 years of experience with CNC machining or related field.
