A leading manufacturing organization is seeking an experienced Automation Controls Superintendent to support a high-volume processing facility in eastern North Carolina. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing automation and controls systems, implementing new technologies, and managing a team of automation and maintenance technicians to ensure reliable, efficient, and safe plant operations. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in PLC programming, robotics, industrial controls, and continuous improvement, along with a proven ability to lead technical teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Automation& Controls Engineering
Lead the integration of new automation and robotic systems into existing production lines.
Review equipment specifications, electrical schematics, and control designs to ensure compliance with engineering standards and applicable electrical and safety codes.
Enhance existing equipment by adding automation and robotic functionality.
Design, program, and support PLC, HMI, and industrial control systems.
Maintain a structured tracking system for all equipment control software and revisions.
Develop and modify electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
Specify and troubleshoot instrumentation such as thermocouples, pressure transducers, and proximity sensors.
Troubleshooting & MaintenancePerform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for automation and control issues.
Troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, motors, contractors, sensors, safety circuits, and electronic components.
Support preventive and predictive maintenance activities for automation systems.
Provide technical assistance during equipment upgrades and system integrations.
Offer after-hours support for critical troubleshooting in a 24/7 manufacturing environment.
Leadership & TrainingSupervise automation and multi-craft maintenance technicians.
Coordinate installation activities and ensure adherence to documented procedures and standards.
Train technical staff on equipment operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance best practices.
Promote compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
Continuous ImprovementParticipate in lean manufacturing and performance improvement initiatives.
Identify opportunities to reduce operating costs and improve system reliability and efficiency.
Drive innovation through the application of new technologies and automation solutions.
