Purpose of Position

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The YMCA of Memphis & the Mid‑South is one of the fastest growing YMCA associations in the country. It offers a fast‑growing team with exciting opportunities ahead. Job Summary

Oversees all accounting functions as a corporate level position located at 7171 Goodlett Farms Parkway in Cordova, TN. Reports to the Chief Financial Officer and works in direct support of the entire business.

Essential Functions
  • Financial Statement Preparation and Review – Leads the monthly close, financial statement process and financial reporting process for the operations team, senior leadership, and finance committee/board of directors. Owns the accounting system and ensures timely, accurate financial information.
  • Financial Analysis and Trend Analysis – Leads the analysis of monthly financial statements in relation to budget, prior year, and strategic plan; provides insight to the CFO and Senior Leadership regarding trends and opportunities.
  • Budgets/Forecasts – Owns budgeting and forecasting processes with the CFO; organizes and coordinates completion with operating teams and reports to senior leadership and the Board of Directors.
  • Capital Planning – Participates in the capital planning process with the CFO, prepares the annual capital budget and funding plan, and provides monthly tracking of spend versus budget and funding updates.
  • Accounting Close Process – Leads month‑end and year‑end close processes, ensures balance sheet reconciliations remain current, sub‑ledger reconciliations are complete, and journal entries are reviewed and posted promptly. Acts as liaison for accounting matters across Membership, Payroll, and Philanthropy systems.
  • GAAP – Identifies and implements accounting changes required by new pronouncements and documents positions with memoranda on complex transactions.
  • Audit and IRS 990 Support – Primary contact for the annual audit and coordination with the tax preparer on Year‑end IRS Form 990.
  • Cash Forecasting – Prepares cash forecasts and reserve/endowment forecasts as needed.
  • Bank and Financial Compliance Reporting – Ensures compliance with all required bank, grant, governmental, and other financial reporting.
  • Grant Accounting – Ensures accurate grant accounting and timely reporting, including monthly reporting and end‑of‑cycle reconciliations; oversees controls for state‑wide grants.
  • Payroll – Oversees accurate and timely completion of bi‑weekly payroll for the association.
  • Insurance and Legal – Coordinates open insurance claims, evaluates appropriate commercial insurance levels, and handles annual insurance renewal processes.
  • Projects – Completes a variety of accounting, financial analysis, internal audits, accounting studies, cost studies, and budget projects; provides recommendations and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
