Medical Assistant

Willamette Valley Cancer Institute is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Medical Assistant to join our clinical team in the Eugene/Springfield area. As a vital member of our collaborative care team, the Medical Assistant plays a key role in supporting patient care and enhancing the overall patient experience.

Overview

General pay scale: $20.00‑$33.00. Actual hiring rate depends on factors such as prior work experience, education, job responsibilities, location, work performance, etc.

Location: Eugene/Springfield, OR

Responsibilities
  • Patient Data Collection:
    Accurately take and record patient information during each physician visit, including vital signs, updates to medications and allergies, depression screenings, smoking status, activity levels, and patient and family health history.
  • Electronic Health Records (EHR):
    Document patient interactions and clinical data accurately, maintaining confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Room Preparation & Maintenance:
    Prepare exam rooms before patient visits and ensure cleanliness and proper stocking of medical supplies.
  • Coordination of Care:
    Facilitate biopsy requests, genetic testing requisition, outside lab orders, imaging requests and miscellaneous orders.
  • Order Follow‑Up:
    Monitor and follow up on medical orders to ensure they are scheduled within the requested time frame, maintaining timely and coordinated patient care.
  • Clinical Support:
    Assist physicians and nursing staff with in‑office procedures, exams, and treatments, ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow.
  • Patient Communication:
    Provide clear and compassionate communication to patients regarding procedures, instructions, and follow‑up care.
  • Patient Escorting:
    Escort patients to and from exam rooms, treatment areas, and other departments as needed.
  • Chart Preparation:
    Perform chart prep for upcoming patient appointments by reviewing and organizing relevant clinical information.
  • Message & Portal Monitoring:
    Monitor the chart message queue and patient portal, responding to patient calls and messages promptly to assist with questions, concerns, and coordination with outside facilities.
  • Provider Communication:
    Maintain excellent communication with providers, keeping them informed of patient concerns, schedule changes, and other relevant updates to support seamless care delivery.
Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • 1–3 years of experience.
  • Experience with refill protocols in a clinic or hospital setting is strongly preferred.
  • Certificate of graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program or NCMA certification preferred.
  • Current BCLS certification required within 3 months of hire.
