Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Patient Representative (Volunteer Services) full‑time Monday‑Friday 09:00 am‑05:00 pm. The successful candidate will facilitate proactive communication between patients, families, and staff to improve the Long Island Community Hospital patient experience, promote patient‑ and family‑centered care, and resolve issues collaboratively across departments.

Job Responsibilities
  • Greet patients and families and create a courteous and professional patient‑centered environment.
  • Investigate hospital complaints and grievances according to policy, escalating appropriately.
  • Triage and prioritize high‑profile complaints, effectively communicating and de‑escalating concerns via phone or in person.
  • Follow the Patient Relations process and promptly respond to patient and family concerns.
  • Initiate appropriate service‑recovery methods to resolve concerns.
  • Document and enter data into the grievance and complaint database in a timely manner.
  • Conduct daily proactive new admission patient‐family rounds on units.
  • Serve as a resource for information concerning patient rights, responsibilities, and advance directives, providing emotional support as needed.
  • Identify cases that are potential quality or risk issues and refer to Quality and Risk Management.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to clarify issues and promote prompt, caring resolution of patient‑family concerns.
  • Anticipate the needs of the patient population served, considering age, culture, language, and accessibility (deaf, hearing impairment, blind, visually impaired).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 3–5 years of healthcare or customer‑service related experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, organizational, and time‑management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer‑service skills.
  • Ability to handle conflict and de‑escalate situations.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Effective communication with all levels of the organization.

Salary range: $58,500.00 – $61,115.14 annually. Actual salaries may vary based on experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
