Health Educator II
An employee in this classification assists the Lead Health Educator II and other health department staff in aspects of a comprehensive health education program, in selected community assessments and research, teaching specific health education classes, making minor modifications to previously developed training packets based on the specific audiences, and in assisting with development of educational information. Work is performed under general supervision and is evaluated through conferences and reports as to the overall effectiveness of the program.
Assists with "Standards for Accreditation" requirements for the Bladen County Health Department and assist Lead Health Educator II in ensuring required evidence needed is collected and submitted.
Serves as Coordinator for the Safe Kids of Bladen County and ensures requirements are met through events and awareness in order to eligible for Safe Kids grants and safety programs.
Assists in the carrying out the agency's health promotion education programs designed to meet the needs of Bladen County citizens in identifying and improving lifestyle risks related to health.
Assists in the collection of community data, generally from existing resources, for planning public health education programs.
Implements activities, within established guidelines, based on interpretation of needs assessment.
Selects educational material and methods, and implements a planned health education program of limited complexity.
Teaches health education classes for clients and community groups.
Designs health education programs of limited complexity and targeted to specific groups.
Serves as public health educator for programs of limited complexity.
Assists Lead Health Educator II in updating the Bladen County Health Department "Strategic Plan" and "Action Plans".
Assists in program evaluation, quality assurance, and program revision as needed.
Maintains pamphlets and educational materials concerning health promotion topics.
Assists in researching grant opportunities and collaborate with partners to advocate for grants to support programs or projects in the community.
Assists with completing the Community Action Plan and Strategic Plan for the program by integrating health promotion programs in the community, to be completed yearly as required for the Statewide Health Promotions Grant funding.
Meets requirements set forth by the "Standards for Accreditation" for the health department accreditation process by meeting benchmarks as guided by policies and procedures as specific for health promotion and education.
Serves as backup PIO for the Health Department and is responsible for assisting Lead Health Educator II with PIO duties as assigned.
Serves as a member on the Healthy Bladen Collaborative board.
Serves as a member on the "School Health Advisory Council" and is responsible for attending quarterly meeting and participating with partnering programs.
Assists Lead Health Educator II with providing yearly required educational trainings for Bladen County Health Department staff and/or county personnel such as but not limited to:
Blood borne Pathogens, Customer Service training, Safety trainings, LET health Disparities trainings, and various required policy reviews.
Position will be responsible for other duties as assigned. Duties may also include Preparedness activities/directives as assigned by Supervisor, Nursing Director or Agency Director.
Serves as Substance Misuse Health Educator
Develop presentation and materials that can be used to provide evidence-based information and education in the community. Materials will be used to raise awareness about substances such as alcohol, prescription and illegal drugs, heroin and other opiates, and inhalants including their effects, how to recognize them and what local resources and treatment options are available to prevent and treat their use and abuse.
Work will support the reduction of stigma throughout the county and reflect opportunities to come together as a supportive community. Community and professional education will include the effects of stigma starting with destigmatized language when referring to substance use and individuals with substance use disorders.
Utilize existing human resources to provide this information such as the Community Paramedic, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Law Enforcement (LE), Medical, Public Health and Social Services staff.
Provide outreach as requested through public forums and other community opportunities.
Inform and support the public in using the on-line portal to access guides, educational resources, treatment, and service information.
Will work with and supervise the in-school prevention and parent program.
Collect numbers of students reached, feedback and evaluations from teachers and students for grant performance.
Facilitating any additional training such as CIT, first responders and other interested organizations.
