Rutherford Regional Health System is a 143-bed acute care facility which offers a broad array of inpatient and outpatient care. How you'll contributeA Health Information Management Technician will excel in this role by:
- Reviewing assembled medical records for completion deficiencies and ensuring documentation meets regulatory requirements, medical staff rules, and Joint Commission standards.
- Ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of the medical record through careful review, scanning, data entry, and timely resolution of documentation issues.
- Tracking and resolving record deficiencies by assigning outstanding items to the appropriate medical staff members, maintaining accurate data, and following up to ensure timely completion.
- Supporting physicians and APRNs with electronic dictation and documentation processes, including system setup, training, e-signature workflows, and follow-up on late or incomplete dictations.
- Managing the retrieval, printing, scanning, logging, and distribution of medical records for authorized physicians, patients, healthcare organizations, and other entities.
- Protecting patient privacy and confidential health information by following HIPAA, hospital policies, and applicable regulatory requirements when handling, accessing, and releasing medical records.
- Providing responsive and professional service to physicians, patients, families, and other visitors while supporting on-call record retrieval, fax transfers, dictation hold queues, and other HIM functions as needed.

- A high school diploma or equivalent required; prior experience in Health Information Management, medical records, or release of information practices preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to review medical records, identify deficiencies, and maintain complete and accurate documentation.
- Knowledge of medical records, release of information, and patient privacy practices, with an understanding of HIPAA and the importance of protecting confidential health information.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple requests, deadlines, record deficiencies, and competing priorities.
- Proficiency with computers and electronic health information systems, with the ability to learn and effectively use EHR, scanning, dictation, tracking, and medical record applications.
