Job Description In-Home Aide

In-Home Aide provide Level I-Level II Care

May perform 2 Activities of Daily Living (ADL’S)

Mission Statement:
To provide services, intergenerational activities, and opportunities to the elderly and disabled adults of Ashe County that enhance their dignity and help them maintain their independence at home.

Desirable Education and Experience/Requirements Graduation from high school and some experience as a caregiver or non-certified aide in a nursing home, hospital, home care agency or rest home; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must not be listed on the Health Care Personnel Registry with concerns/problems/issues per the guidelines/regulations of the Health Care Personnel Registry. Possession of a valid N.C.driver’s license.

A reliable vehicle for travel to and from client homes.

General Statement of In-Home Aide Duties

Work involves personal care (ADL’S) to include, but not limited to, bathing, dressing (includes grooming), ambulation/transfers (mobility), eating, toileting, bowel/bladder incontinence and home management (house cleaning) in the client’s home (older adults, disabled persons and children), essential errands for client under the supervision of an appropriate professional/paraprofessional.

Distinguishing Features of the In-Home Aide Position In-Home Aides provide the above-mentioned general duties. Socialization, community inclusion and caregiver respite may be included per client need. An employee may work with a client for a short time frame or for an extended period of time depending on client needs and staffing. Assignments may change frequently. Duties and percentage of time spent in various activities may change based on client needs.

Work includes written documentation utilizing progress notes, time sheets and mileage sheets. Progress notes/time sheets reflect, but are not limited to, observations of client needs, changes in client condition, tasks completed, etc. Work is performed according to regulations, per the client Plan of Care (POC), and as directed by a Supervisor/RN. Duties may include, but are not limited to the following activities:
Provide care to normal unbroken skin; plan meals using a food guide; assist and encourage activity and/or prescribed exercises. Duties may expose the employee to human body fluids and thus work is subject to OSHA Requirements for Blood-Borne Pathogens. Work is supervised by an In-Home Aide Supervisor (RN), and is reviewed through conferences, review of records/reports, observation and from feedback from client/family/caregiver and case managers.

Must be able to complete a Competency/Skills Checklist as reviewed/directed by an RN with Generations Ashe.

Performs related duties as required.

Physical Requirements Must be able to physically perform basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, and hearing. Must be able to perform heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects.

Must possess the visual acuity to operate a motor vehicle, to make visual interpretations of client and home conditions, and to determine the neatness and thoroughness of the work performed.

Recruitment and Selection Guidelines Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Skills in listening/communicating with client/family/caregiver/supervisory staff/other employees. Ability to read/write. Ability to communicate effectively in oral/written form. Ability to drive a vehicle. Ability to maintain and develop effective working relationships with staff/client/family/caregiver, supervisors, case managers, other employees and the general public. Ability to inspect and monitor client safety issues, and report concerns to appropriate supervisor.

Ability to act as a client advocate.

Provide a support base for client/family.
