About Position

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) provides clinical support to the primary care provider, performing tasks including check-ins, vital signs, ECGs, injections, PPD placements/readings, eye and ear irrigation, TED hose and compression socks, specimen processing, procedure assistance, laboratory administrative functions, screening tests, autoclave maintenance, and quality controls for Point-of-Care Testing (POCT). While performing POCT, the CMA completes administrative and clinical tasks to support PHS laboratories.

The CMA participates in pre-visit planning and huddles with the interdisciplinary care team; explains procedures, treatments, and medication usage to patients; provides educational materials and follow-up care; and delivers provider information. The position may float to other clinical sites. Duties are within NC Medical Board and NC Board of Nursing regulations.

  • Schedule:

    Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm (Rotating Late Thursday, 8:00am to 8:00pm Biweekly)

Duties / Responsibilities
  • Perform intake with patients, including vital signs, visit information, and other clinical information as indicated.
  • Take telephone messages, document encounters, follow clinic protocols, and inform providers.
  • Administer medications to patients as ordered or per established protocols following the six rights of medication administration.
  • Assist providers with procedures such as EKGs.
  • Administer injections/phlebotomy as needed.
  • Set up for clinical procedures, high-level disinfection & sterilization, and other tasks within scope of practice.
  • Address patient needs by completing forms accurately and thoroughly.
  • Document lab results and collect data.
  • Participate in population management with the care team.
  • Review provider appointments the day before visits to anticipate needs.
  • Complete vision and hearing screening.
  • Phone notes per PHS guidelines.
  • Other clinical and administrative duties as assigned within scope of practice.
Qualifications

Education: Graduation from an accredited Medical Assisting Program (Diploma or Degree).

Experience:

  • 1 to 3 years of healthcare experience in a clinical setting
  • 1 year of experience providing care for the elderly, preferred

Certification: CMA or RMA Certification; eligible certs listed: CMA/RMA via American Medical Associations institutions;
First Aid/BLS Certification.

Immunizations

Be medically cleared for communicable diseases and up-to-date immunizations prior to employment.

Pay Range

$20.48/Hourly - $27.52/Hourly (commensurate with experience)
