Position Summary

The Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) is responsible for the assessment, development, implementation, and monitoring of individualized behavioral intervention plans for individuals with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, and/or co-occurring mental health diagnoses. Services must meet the requirements of North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NC DHHS) service definitions and The Joint Commission Behavioral Health Care and Human Services Standards.

The BCBA ensures all treatment is evidence-based, person-centered, culturally competent, and compliant with applicable regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assessment & Treatment Planning
  • Conducts functional behavior assessments (FBA), skill assessments, and other clinically appropriate evaluations.
  • Develops individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) in accordance with NC DHHS service definitions and Medicaid requirements.
  • Ensures plans are measurable, realistic, and include goals that promote independence, skill acquisition, and reduction of maladaptive behaviors.
  • Reviews and updates plans at least every 90 days or as required by regulation.
Service Delivery & Clinical Oversight
  • Provides direct behavioral intervention as needed and supervises implementation of treatment plans by Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) and other staff.
  • Ensures that all interventions follow Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles and evidence-based best practices.
  • Maintains 100% compliance with required documentation timelines and service notes.
  • Oversees fidelity of plan implementation and makes data-driven adjustments.
Supervision & Staff Training
  • Provides supervision to RBTs and unlicensed staff in accordance with the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) supervision requirements and NC DHHS rules.
  • Delivers training to staff and caregivers on behavior support strategies, data collection, crisis intervention, and positive behavioral supports.
  • Ensures that staff maintain required competency and complete all annual training as per The Joint Commission and NC DHHS standards.
Data Collection & Quality Assurance
  • Implements systems for continuous data collection and analysis to evaluate treatment progress.
  • Participates in the agency’s Performance Improvement Program to identify high-risk, high-volume, and problem-prone processes and improve outcomes.
  • Conducts chart audits and ensures documentation meets audit readiness standards.
  • Responds to and documents any incidents, including critical incidents, in compliance with agency policy.
Risk Management & Client Safety
  • Ensures all interventions prioritize the safety, dignity, and rights of individuals served.
  • Collaborates in developing crisis intervention and de-escalation protocols in accordance with NC DHHS Behavioral Support and Crisis Management policies.
  • Reviews and participates in root cause analysis following significant incidents.
Interdisciplinary & Family Collaboration
  • Works closely with families, caregivers, educators, and other treatment providers to ensure coordinated care.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings, Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, and treatment team conferences.
  • Provides caregiver training to promote generalization of skills across environments.
Qualifications Education & Certification:
  • Master’s degree or higher in Applied Behavior Analysis, Psychology, Education, or related field.
  • Current Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) in good standing.
  • Licensed as a Behavior Analyst in North Carolina (if applicable by state law).
Experience:
  • Minimum of 2 years of post-certification experience in providing ABA services to individuals with developmental disabilities and/or autism.
  • Experience in behavioral assessment, plan development, data analysis, and staff supervision.
  • Familiarity with NC DHHS regulations, Medicaid service definitions, and The Joint Commission standards.
