Job SummaryParticipates in the operational, clinical and administrative oversight of the pharmacy department.
Responsibilities and Duties- Interprets, packs, labels and dispenses prescriptions; administers and distributes drugs.
- Assists patients at prescription drop off and pick up areas and disburses completed and confirmed prescriptions to patients.
- Assists with staff training.
- Ensures all payments, including cash, check and credit card, are reconciled and submitted to the finance department.
- Coordinates maintenance of pharmacy environment, including cleanliness and neatness.
- Provides education on 340B pharmacy services.
- Represents the pharmacy in meetings when needed.
- Collaborates with practitioners to provide consults on drug information and patient education.
- Assists practitioners in assessing patient information for the correct medication orders in consideration of patient’s health status.
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in internal in-service meetings and continuing education programs.
- Provides updates, training and recommendations to clinicians during practitioner meetings.
- Assists with the purchase of all drugs, supplies and pharmaceuticals used in the pharmacy.
- Maintains relationships with external stakeholders and vendors.
- Maintains current knowledge of and participates in inventory processes, including ordering, inventory returns, restocking shelves with proper rotation of items, and managing outdated medications.
- Ensures compliance with legal and regulatory requirements for pharmacy practice and operations, (i.e., 340B program, NC Board of Pharmacy, Drug Enforcement Agency, Medicaid, etc.)
- Maintains compliance with pharmacy policies and procedures and knowledgeofchanges in laws, regulations and accreditation standards.
- Reads emails and other platforms of communication within the organization.
- Complies with Clinical Quality Measures expectations.
- Uses resources to verify standards of care.
- Modifies workflows as determined by department to attain QI objectives.
- Consistently documents activities related to QI projects.
- Determines the most effective method for assigning responsibilities and duties to department employees.
- Assigns duties and responsibilities, and ensures employees receive instruction/training needed to complete their job responsibilities.
- Ensures that employees are aware of and adhere to all company policies and procedures and conveys all senior management communications and directives.
- Reviews departmental work for thoroughness and accuracy and provides specific instructions to supervisors and employees on completion of tasks/responsibilities.
Doctoral Degree in Pharmacy. Current licensure as a Pharmacist in good standing with the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy. Current BLS certification.
Possesses knowledge of the 340B program, state, federal and third-party regulations relating to pharmacy operations.
