About the RoleAs a Respiratory Aide, you assist respiratory therapists with patient care under direct supervision of a licensed respiratory care practitioner. You will prepare for and provide patient care and support a range of respiratory procedures as part of Haywood Regional Medical Center’s Respiratory Therapy team.
ResponsibilitiesPrepared to perform the following procedures:
- Oxygen Supply Systems
- Equipment Processing
- Manual Resuscitation
- Oxygen Administration
- Humidity and Aerosol Therapy
- Small Volume Nebulizer Therapy
- MDI Administration
- Incentive Spirometry
- Non‑invasive Mechanical Airway Clearance Therapy
- Chest Physiotherapy with suctioning
- Arterial Puncture
- Electrocardiogram (if performed)
- Patient Reporting
- Must be enrolled in a recognized Respiratory Care Program approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care.
- Student must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA in all RCP courses and overall average of 2.0.
- Must register with the Board on the required form before performing respiratory care procedures.
- Basic Life Support certification required within 30 days of hire.
- Hospital training during two years of Radiologic Technologist program preferred.
- Experience in other x‑ray departments, clinics, or medical offices desirable.
- Belonging to national, state and/or local societies desirable.
- Critical thinking skills, decisive judgement, ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
