Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) — Part-Time, Weaverville / North Asheville About the Lighthouse

Lighthouse is a specialized agency dedicated to providing top-quality Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy services for children with autism. Our mission is to empower these children and their families by implementing evidence-based interventions that promote skill development, independence, and improved communication. We value compassion, dedication, and professional growth, placing a strong focus on fostering a supportive environment where our team members can grow and thrive.

Job Description

Lighthouse is seeking a dedicated Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) for a specific part-time opening in the Weaverville area, just north of Asheville. You will provide one-on-one ABA therapy to a 10-year-old boy with autism in his home, under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst.

This is a new case, and you would be the primary technician working with this client — an opportunity to build a strong, consistent relationship with one learner and his family from the start of services.

Schedule — please read before applying

This position is up to 15 hours per week, scheduled within the family's available windows:

  • Monday – Friday, 3:30 PM – 6:00 PM
  • Sunday, 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Your specific days will be set with the family and your supervising BCBA, and will then stay consistent week to week. This is a defined, recurring schedule — not an on-call or variable role.

All sessions take place in the client's home in Weaverville (Buncombe County), a short drive north of Asheville. Mileage is reimbursed.

We are only able to consider applicants who are consistently available on weekday late afternoons and/or Sunday early afternoons. If your availability is mornings or weekday evenings only, this particular role will not be a fit.

Responsibilities
  • Implement ABA therapy techniques under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), within the RBT scope of practice.
  • Provide one-on-one therapy sessions, following an individualized treatment plan.
  • Teach and reinforce appropriate social, communication, and behavioral skills in a supportive and structured environment.
  • Support the client's use of his communication device throughout sessions.
  • Implement behavior support strategies, including de-escalation and antecedent strategies, as written in the plan.
  • Support toileting and daily living skill goals as part of the treatment plan.
  • Foster a positive and engaging therapeutic relationship, promoting independence and well-being.
  • Collect data and track progress to ensure effective treatment outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the supervising BCBA to review progress and adjust as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/caregivers on goals, progress, and carryover strategies.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed session documentation.
  • Maintain your RBT credential in good standing, including ongoing supervision and renewal requirements.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development.
Ideal Candidate

If you're seeking a position that is fulfilling, impactful, and offers room for growth, this is for you! Join our warm and collaborative team of experienced therapists and make a difference in the lives of children with special needs and their families.

Our ideal candidate is someone who:

  • Is passionate about working with children on the autism spectrum and individuals with special needs.
  • Demonstrates patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to make a positive impact.
  • Is comfortable with active, play-based, physical sessions and supporting a learner who communicates with a device.
  • Has experience with — or a strong willingness to be trained in — safely de-escalating and redirecting mild aggression.
  • Is comfortable supporting toileting and personal care goals.
  • Has excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage with the client, parents, and the interdisciplinary team.
  • Is detail-oriented and able to follow treatment plans, collect data, and maintain documentation.
  • Is open to learning and receiving feedback, with a growth mindset.
  • Has consistent late-afternoon availability in the Weaverville / north Asheville area.
Requirements
  • Current RBT certification in good standing through the BACB.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in ABA therapy or working with individuals on the autism spectrum preferred.
  • Reliable personal transportation is required.
  • Comfortable providing services in a family's home.
