Adult Behavioral Health Technician
Join a compassionate team dedicated to providing exceptional care in an adult psychiatric unit within a regional healthcare setting in the Southeastern United States. This full-time day position involves delivering routine patient care, monitoring behavioral health patients, and supporting therapeutic activities under nursing supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Observe and document changes in patient conditions, including vital signs and weight, reporting abnormalities promptly.
- Assist patients with daily living activities such as personal hygiene and toileting.
- Support admissions, transfers, and discharges by conducting contraband searches, orienting patients, and securing belongings.
- Utilize crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques effectively to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment.
- Facilitate therapeutic group meetings and participate in community wrap-ups.
- Assist with therapeutic holds, restraints, and seclusion procedures following required training.
- Perform regular patient rounding and constant observation as directed.
- Contribute to documentation, including intake/output and vital sign graphing.
- Engage in educational initiatives and cost containment efforts.
Education and Training:
- High school diploma or equivalent required;
Associate or Bachelor's degree in Psychology or Social Work preferred. - Nursing Assistant certification accepted.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required.
- Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) training and certification must be completed within 30 days of employment.
Experience:
- Preferred:
Minimum of 2 years psychiatric experience.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent customer service orientation.
- Competency in working with children, adolescents, and adults with mental health conditions.
- Basic understanding of age-specific considerations for the patient population.
- General computer proficiency.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work variable shifts including prolonged standing, walking, bending, and patient lifting.
- Visual and auditory acuity for observation and manual dexterity for documentation.
- Potential exposure to blood or other infectious materials.
