Summary:

The Mental Health Specialist Sitter (MHS Sitter) plays a vital role in patient safety by providing one-on-one observation and support during night shifts. Working closely with nursing staff, the sitter helps ensure a secure environment while offering appropriate stimuli to patients. Effective communication with all members involved in the patient's care is essential, as is delivering compassionate customer service to patients, staff, and visitors.

Responsibilities:
Utilize crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques when necessary. Conduct safe individual activities with patients, demonstrating strong observation and intervention skills. Maintain calm and clear verbal communication with patients and their families. Physical duties include walking, standing, sitting, turning, and assisting with patient movement as needed.

Education and

Certifications:

Must obtain CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification within 30 days of employment. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required.

Experience and Skills:

Proficiency in interpersonal communication and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations are critical. Prior experience in a similar role or healthcare setting is beneficial but not mandatory.
