Advanced Behavioral Health Technician - Psychiatric Emergency Dept. Nights
Join a dedicated team providing compassionate care in a psychiatric emergency setting within a vibrant regional healthcare network in the Southeastern United States. This full-time night shift role involves direct patient care, observation, and support under nursing supervision, fostering a safe and therapeutic environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Deliver routine patient care including monitoring, recording condition changes, and obtaining vital signs.
- Assist patients with daily living activities and provide emotional support.
- Conduct contraband searches and manage patient belongings during admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Utilize crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques effectively.
- Support therapeutic holds, restraints, and seclusion procedures following specialized training.
- Facilitate group activities and therapeutic community meetings.
- Maintain safety, cleanliness, and a positive therapeutic atmosphere.
- Collaborate with medical, nursing, security staff, and fellow behavioral health technicians.
Education and training requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required;
Associate or Bachelor's degree in Psychology or Social Work preferred. - Nursing Assistant certification accepted.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required.
- Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) training and certification to be completed within 30 days of employment.
Experience:
- Preferred:
Minimum of 2 years psychiatric experience.
Skills and abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Competency in working with children, adolescents, and adults with mental health conditions.
- Basic understanding of age-specific considerations for the served population.
- General computer proficiency.
Physical requirements:
- Ability to work variable shifts including nights.
- Capability to bend, stand for prolonged periods, walk, turn, and lift patients as needed.
- Visual and auditory acuity for observation and manual dexterity for documentation.
- Potential exposure to blood or other infectious materials.
