of Work

The Health Care Technician I position is primarily responsible for providing direct care and person centered supports to residents with complex physical, intellectual, medical, and behavioral needs. Health Care Technician I focus on providing services to enhance the quality-of-life of their residents in a caring home environment with dignity and respect, offering choices and options to support individuality. Duties include completing nursing assistant assignments while maintaining optimal gross/fine motor skills, ensuring activities of daily living (mealtime, dressing, bathing, grooming, etc.)

while supporting the highest level of independence. This position is responsible for ensuring all health and safety needs are met for assigned residents per regulatory guidelines. Health Care Technician I are responsible for ensuring confidentiality and compliance with the Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA) in all aspects of communication. To be considered for employment the applicant must be in good standing with the NC Health Care Personnel Registry.

Employee will be required to successfully complete training through our Staff Development department which includes but is not limited to NCI (North Carolina Intervention), CPR, Body Mechanics and lifting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities / Management Preferences

Salary Grade: $31,200 - $46,348. A Sign-on bonus of $2,000 may be offered to the successful applicant(s) of this posting, contingent on the  Budget Approval. Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

  • Knowledgeable and skilled in nursing care techniques.
  • Ability to communicate observations and recommendations effectively and accurately in written and verbal form.
  • Ability to communicate in a respectful manner to residents, family/guardians, co-workers, and others.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team while maintaining a professional, pleasant demeanor in work relationships.
  • Ability to learn behavior management interventions and support counseling relationships.
  • Experience providing direct care and person centered supports to residents with complex physical, intellectual, medical, and behavioral needs.

This Position Is Designated As Mandatory And Must Report Or Stay Over During Adverse Weather Events. We Will Be Recruiting For Multiple Positions With This Post. Your Application Will Be Considered For All Noted Open Positions.

Available Shifts

8-Hour Shifts

  • B-Shift (7:00am-3:30pm)
  • C-Shift (3:00pm-11:30pm)
  • A-Shift (11:00pm-7:30am)

12-Hour Shifts

  • Day (7:00am-7:30pm)
  • Evening/Night (7:00pm-7:30am)
Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus

To qualify for the Sign-on Bonus, a newly hired permanent full-time or permanent part-time employee must work 30 to 40 hours per week to be eligible. Those who are eligible and working less than 40 hours a week will receive a prorated rate. An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:

  • The employee has held a position in the North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system, within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date)
  • The employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.

All Sign-on Bonuses are contingent upon budget and final eligibility determination as of the effective date of hire. Additional information regarding the Sign-on Policy can be found here.
