PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Under the mentorship of the department Supervisor/Manager, gain knowledge of the day to day supervisor duties and responsibilities of assigned department. Partner to ensure all procedures are followed in compliance with Company policies and Federal and State regulations (i.e. USDA, OSHA, etc.) while achieving the highest level of productivity and maintaining customer specifications and satisfaction.
- Assist the Supervisor/Manager with the running of the department or line including coordinating the work of personnel and enforcing company policies, procedures, food safety guidelines and GMP procedures.
- Understand the department objectives and/or production requirements and delegate workload to ensure work is completed efficiently.
- Partner with the supervisor to learn and understand the functioning of the department, applicable policies and regulations, and the supervisor’s role and responsibilities (coaching, mentoring, labor costs, budget, timekeeping, etc.).
- Gather and accurately record data and create reports (departmental reports, attendance/staffing, yields, etc.) and disseminate to appropriate personnel.
- Understand and perform all functions of the assigned area and act as back‑up for personnel in case of absences or breaks.
- Work with Supervisor/Manager and/or Human Resources in providing input for quarterly feedback meetings.
- Identify and communicate opportunities for process optimization (throughput, waste reduction, product quality, ergonomics, etc.) and/or reduce/eliminate repeat deficiencies (hold product, accidents, downtime, etc.).
- Lead or participate in the planning and implementation of process improvements, monitor improvement metrics and respond to unfavorable trends.
- Lead and actively participate in departmental meetings.
- Train/cross‑train employees in departmental processes and procedures.
- Follow and promote all safety initiatives helping to maintain a zero-accident culture.
- Learn, understand and adhere to current Union negotiated contract if applicable.
- Collaborate with other departments/shifts to ensure departmental or location goals are met or exceeded.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or equivalent;
Associate’s degree in Business or relevant discipline preferred. - Combination of applicable experience and education may be substituted for degree.
- Completion of all Wayne Farms Leader of People online LMS training modules required.
- Minimum one (1) year of relevant experience; experience within a manufacturing setting preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership skills including knowledge of timekeeping requirements, policy adherence, Top 25 behaviors and conflict resolution.
- Prior supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong ability to communicate in English, both verbal and written, with internal and external customers in a timely and professional manner; ability to communicate in multiple languages preferred.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
- Proficient computer and math skills.
- Self‑starter who demonstrates strong initiative and sense of urgency, with the ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Follow and ensure others follow departmental and company safety policies and programs.
- Wear required protective equipment in all areas where mandatory.
- Ability to work non‑standard or extended shifts including nights, weekends, and/or holidays as needed.
- Ability to stand and/or walk throughout shift.
- May be exposed to heat (99ºF, 37ºC) and cold (45ºF, 4ºC).
- Exposure to wet and/or dusty environment.
- Work around live and/or raw animal odors.
