Vice Chancellor Advancement and President of the University Foundation
Vice Chancellor Advancement leads the university’s fundraising efforts with the support of the chancellor’s leadership team and the Foundation and Alumni boards. The role collaborates with faculty, staff, and university leadership to create connections between constituencies and foster opportunities for successful fundraising.
Primary Responsibilities- Advance the mission, vision and goals of the university in collaboration with the chancellor, cabinet and senior leadership.
- Collaborate closely with the chancellor in all phases of fundraising activities.
- Serve as a member of the Chancellor’s Cabinet and maintain close working relationships with members of the Board of Trustees, Board of Directors, key supporters, alumni, parent/families and friends.
- Maintain a dynamic portfolio of high‑net‑worth individuals and secure major, capital and planned gifts.
- In partnership with the chancellor, build and lead the infrastructure, organization and culture necessary to support a comprehensive development program, collaborating with deans, academic and administrative leaders, faculty, coaches and other stakeholders.
- Participate in the implementation of the UNCP strategic plan, Vision 2031 and strengthen the university’s financial resources.
- Create and execute fundraising plans using best practices in annual, major and planned gift programs to meet fundraising goals.
- Ensure best practices in donor qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
- Hire, train, inspire and guide the advancement team toward accountable, goal‑oriented outcomes.
- Develop and implement annual and long‑term fundraising plans to increase giving across all sectors and vehicles.
- Provide expertise, leadership and executive support to the UNCP Foundation Board and Alumni Board of Directors while serving as the staff liaison to the Board of Trustees and Board of Visitors.
- Manage Advancement division special events.
- Lead alumni, parent/family and other key constituent relations, implementing a comprehensive engagement strategy that fosters lifelong relationships and aligns with the university’s strategic plan.
- Devise and implement effective messaging and methods of advancement communication.
- Serve as an exemplary university advocate, partnering with local government, business and corporate partners to build deep relationships that link the community with the university.
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
- At least seven years of progressively responsible, hands‑on leadership experience in a development program of similar or greater complexity and scope, with demonstrated fundraising success.
- Proven record of campaign planning, execution and advancement accomplishments.
- Strong organizational, supervisory and leadership capabilities.
- Demonstrated record of soliciting and closing major and principal gifts.
- Experience building advancement programs, tracking fundraising performance, and leveraging technology to support outreach and communication.
- Exemplary interpersonal skills and ability to influence volunteers and donors from varied backgrounds.
- Ability to lead both on and off campus.
- Collaborative approach to leadership and understanding of the integration of development with public relations and marketing.
- Resonance with the mission, history, culture and surrounding communities of UNCP.
- Experience working directly with a board of trustees, foundation board or similar governance body and with principal gift prospects.
- Superior strategic thinking at the prospect, departmental and institutional level.
- Successful completion of a background check required.
Position Type:
Senior Academic and Administrative Officer (Exempt). Full‑time (1.0 FTE). 12 months per year.
