Correctional Housing Unit Manager II (S)
Position InformationPosition Number:
• Grade: NC08
Reporting to the Associate Warden of Custody & Operations at a medium‑custody male correctional facility, this role oversees first‑line supervision of Correctional Housing Unit Manager I’s and ensures effective operation and security of the housing unit.
Responsibilities- Assume overall management of the correctional housing unit.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and training to subordinate staff.
- Coordinate work schedules to ensure shift coverage and enforce operational procedures.
- Serve as Officer‑in‑Charge (OIC) or highest‑ranking custody staff when required.
- Maintain facility security through regular inspections and adherence to regulations.
- Conduct drills, searches, and manage emergency situations such as distress codes or escapes.
- Supervise searches of offenders, living areas, and work areas for contraband.
- Investigate and respond to security incidents, disputes, and complaints.
- Prepare, review reports, and complete performance evaluations of subordinate staff.
- Serve on institutional committees as assigned.
- High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) AND at least five years of correctional experience, with a minimum of two years in a supervisory role.
- Eligibility for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
- Knowledge of prison policies, procedures, and facility operations.
- Documented report‑writing skills.
- Knowledge of case‑management practices, supportive counseling, or intake assessment techniques.
- Familiarity with prison policy and procedures.
Salary Range: $39,244 – $68,679 (Annual)
