Correctional Housing Unit Manager III (S)
Salary is $43,267.00-$75,718.00
This position is located at Bertie Correctional Institution, Windsor, NC. This position provides direct supervision for the Correctional Housing Unit Manager II and assumes responsibility for the overall management of the correctional housing unit. Daily, this position provides leadership, maintains attendance records, conducts investigations, oversees leave schedules and conducts performance appraisals in addition to other administrative duties. Assists in holding staff accountable regarding employment objectives and expectations as outlined in the performance appraisal process.
This position also implements and monitors the unit case management system providing counseling and maintain reports related to the offender progress through the institution. This individual must ensure staff are alert, properly trained, informed and prepared to perform job responsibilities under a variety of conditions. This position is responsible for ensuring proper protocol is followed with regard to security and control to protective equipment such as OC pepper spray, handcuffs, and keys and radios and equipment is properly maintained and functioning properly, and staff are assigned and the required safety equipment and are trained in its use.
Employees may serve in a variety of institutional classification committees. Position will prepare operational reports, memorandum, and documents regarding incidents such as incident reports, accident reports, use of force reports, disciplinary reports and shift narratives. This position description is not all-inclusive, and supervisor may delegate and assign other duties to positions as needed. Hours may vary based on operational needs.

The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.
