The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community.

This position is located at Forsyth Correctional Center located in Winston-Salem, N.C. (Forsyth County), which is a 248-bed minimum custody facility and employs approximately 55 staff. The primary purpose of this position is to organize and coordinate the complete business and human resource functions at the assigned minimum custody facility. This requires high level decision making based on knowledge of DAC policy as well as a thorough understanding of facility operations.
Established working hours of Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm and must be available 24/7 to meet facility needs. This position reports directly to the Warden I of Forsyth Correctional Center.
- Provides oversight of all facility administrative operations, including budget, business office functions, procurement, inventory, and support services to ensure efficient and compliant operations.
- Supervises administrative and support staff, including assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, and ensuring staff are trained in applicable policies and procedures.
- Implements and monitors administrative policies and procedures in accordance with NCDAC guidelines and State regulations.
- Prepares, administers, and monitors the facility’s operating budget, ensuring proper fiscal management, reporting, and adherence to established controls.
- Ensures compliance with internal audits, policy standards, and regulatory requirements, and implements corrective actions as necessary.
- Serves as a member of the facility’s management team, providing guidance and recommendations on administrative, financial, and operational matters.
- Coordinates administrative support functions with custody and programs staff to ensure continuous and effective facility operations.
- Reviews and evaluates administrative processes and operations to identify inefficiencies and knowledge skills and abilities / management preferences.

AboutThe Division of Institutions
The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.
