Job Description

The Night Shift Production Manager leads all manufacturing operations during the overnight shift within a high-volume nonwovens production environment. This role drives production performance, ensures strict adherence to safety and quality standards, and manages a team of supervisors and operators to consistently achieve throughput, efficiency, and uptime targets. The position requires hands-on leadership, deep understanding of nonwoven manufacturing processes, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, continuous 24/7 operation.

This is a highly visible leadership role with significant influence on plant performance, team engagement, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

+ Oversee all night shift production operations to meet output, efficiency, and quality targets in a continuous nonwovens manufacturing environment.

+ Lead shift supervisors and production teams by providing clear direction, coaching, and performance accountability.

+ Monitor key production metrics, including throughput, scrap rates, uptime, and labor efficiency, and take timely action to address variances.

+ Ensure proper operation of nonwoven production lines and maintain stable processes to support consistent product quality and yield.

+ Troubleshoot process issues that impact product quality, consistency, and yield, escalating and collaborating with engineering and maintenance as needed.

+ Partner with engineering and maintenance teams to resolve equipment or process challenges and improve equipment reliability.

+ Drive a strong safety culture by enforcing safety policies and procedures and modeling safe behaviors on the production floor.

+ Conduct safety observations, audits, and incident investigations as needed, and implement corrective and preventive actions.

+ Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to all plant safety standards.

+ Ensure all products meet customer specifications and internal quality standards through disciplined process control and standard work.

+ Collaborate with quality teams to address defects and deviations, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.

+ Enforce standard work practices and process controls to maintain consistency and reduce variability in production.

+ Lead, coach, and develop production supervisors and hourly team members, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous learning.

+ Manage staffing levels, attendance, and shift coverage to ensure adequate resources for safe and efficient operations.

+ Promote a culture of teamwork, engagement, and continuous improvement across the night shift.

+ Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and improve throughput.

+ Support Lean manufacturing initiatives and standardization efforts to streamline operations.

+ Drive structured problem-solving activities related to downtime, scrap, and throughput challenges.

+ Coordinate with maintenance to improve equipment reliability, minimize unplanned downtime, and support preventive maintenance activities.

+ Partner with engineering on process improvements, technology upgrades, and new product introductions.

+ Communicate effectively with day shift leadership to ensure smooth shift transitions, clear handoffs, and continuity of operations.

+ Act as a visible, hands-on leader on the production floor, engaging directly with operators and supervisors to resolve issues in real time.

Essential Skills

+ At least 5 years of production or manufacturing leadership experience.

+ A minimum of 2 years in a Production Manager or Supervisor role within a manufacturing environment.

+ Direct experience in nonwoven manufacturing, such as spunbond, meltblown, or similar processes.

+ Experience leading teams in a 24/7 or continuous operation environment.

+ Strong knowledge of production metrics, including throughput, scrap, uptime, and labor efficiency.

+ Proficiency in process control, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis in a manufacturing setting.
