Job Overview

This opening is for an Assembly Operator III working directly with fiber optics. The position is responsible for optical connector assembly, termination of various configurations of fiber optic cable assemblies, and testing of these cable assemblies. The individual may assist in process development and the resolution of problems encountered in bringing new optical products from concept to market. The individual is a self‑starter, able to work well under schedule pressures, and capable of balancing workload as priorities change.

Candidates have a strong work ethic, a desire to continually learn, and a concentrated focus on serving the Customer.

Bonus and retention award opportunities may be available based on the successful completion of required training milestones and continued good standing.

Shift: Mon‑Fri, 3:00 pm‑11:30 pm (10% Shift Differential).

Primary Responsibilities
  • Polish and test fiber optic cables
  • Assemble and package fiber optic connector components (as needed)
  • Terminate single and multi‑fiber cables
  • Operate fiber router & complete over‑molding process (as needed)
  • Support prototype product builds, test product builds, pre‑release NPI builds (as needed)
  • Measure components using calipers, gages, or other measuring devices
  • Complete necessary operational paperwork required to maintain the traceability of product
  • Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs to equipment
  • Understand cleaning methods and contamination assessment for optical assembly
  • Mechanical aptitude to safely & efficiently operate equipment (E‑Stop/Soft Stop) and identify issues
  • Suggest process improvements to improve overall manufacturing efficiencies
  • Communicate within a team atmosphere to ensure clarity of purpose & Customer satisfaction
  • After training period of 30 days, work with limited supervision to provide timely and quality products
  • Inspect own work and products using quality standards, work instructions and prints
  • Accountability – takes responsibility for his/her own work; respects confidential information shared by others
  • Available to work overtime to support production goals as needed
  • Ability to work in a clean‑room environment wearing all required clean‑room gowning garments and PPE (gowns, shoe booties, hair nets, nitrile gloves, safety glasses, safety shoes)
Qualifications
  • Ability to distinguish between color‑coded fiber optic cables – essential function of this position
  • High School diploma or GED (preferred)
  • Minimum 1 year manufacturing experience required with knowledge of manufacturing principles such as Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, and Productivity
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a fiber optic manufacturing environment (preferred)
  • SAP Manufacturing & ISO 9001 experience (preferred)
  • Proficient hand‑eye dexterity & motor skills for intricate/delicate work
  • Working knowledge of hand tools and blueprint reading (preferred)
  • Must be able to work with small parts in a clean‑room environment, using a microscope
  • Available to work overtime to support production goals as needed (repeated)
  • Good time‑management skills to work on numerous projects (sometimes simultaneously)
  • Attention to detail – follow bill of material, job routers, and understand drawings/prints
  • Team oriented – work effectively and cohesively with other employees to achieve required objectives
  • Credibility – takes responsibility for his/her own work; respects confidential information and concerns shared by others
  • Safety and quality conscious – follow safety and quality requirements
  • Must be able to move materials weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time
  • Must be able to operate machinery
  • Must be able to move between work zones
  • Must be proficient and able to understand written instructions in English language
Compensation
  • Competitive base salary commensurate with experience: $23/HR (subject to change dependent on physical location)
  • Posted salary ranges are made in good faith; TE Connectivity reserves the right to adjust ranges based on experience/qualification and internal/external equity
  • Total Compensation = Base Salary + Incentive(s) + Benefits
