Quarry Laborer – Hayesville, NC Job Description Summary

  • The Quarry Laborer is responsible for general laborer duties at quarry as instructed by foreman.
Requirements
  • Properly follow all company policies and procedures for safe working procedures and environment. Report any problems to the Foreperson, Safety Manager, or Human Resources Manager.
  • Perform daily pre‑shift inspection followed by submission of a report for any repairs needed.
  • Inspection of equipment and safety items required at the end of each shift.
  • Greasing equipment as needed during pre‑shift and at the end of each shift.
  • May make normal operating adjustments to equipment. Job requires cleaning and washing of vehicle.
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co‑workers and supervisors at all times.
  • Ability to be flexible with schedule changes, location changes, and time of shift changes. Overtime work required.
  • Must report to the assigned job site and be ready to begin work at the designated start time.
  • Attendance required according to company attendance policy to ensure the crew can operate at normal efficiency.
  • Strict adherence to company safety requirements and procedures.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co‑workers or supervisors with other quarry duties as required.
  • Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by MSHA.
  • Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently under a variety of working conditions as instructed by foreperson.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal instructions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently with attention to detail.
Physical Demands
  • Climbing, stooping, bending, squatting, lifting, stretching, sitting/driving and shifting gears and pulling.
  • Ability to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk and hear.
  • May require sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Uses hand tools such as wrenches and screwdrivers.
  • Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth and the ability to focus.
  • Requires occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to adapt and work in all weather conditions.
  • Employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock or burn. Noise level is moderate.
Education / Experience
  • High school education or GED preferred but not required.
