Toyota’s Battery Manufacturing Production Engineering Division is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Production Engineer – Battery to support the successful line‑off of North America’s 1st battery production site for prismatic lithium‑ion battery cells and modules to charge Toyota’s future.
The primary responsibility of this role is to procure, install, and validate Battery equipment to support new model launches.
This position will be located at TBMNC in North Carolina and will report to an assigned Engineering Manager for Battery Implementation Team.
What you’ll be doing- Promote a safe working environment in all construction and manufacturing areas
- Work in a collaborative team environment (supporting other Engineers, Construction Management Group, Technicians, Vendors, General Contractors, etc.) to achieve project milestones
- Perform machine trials and confirmation activities prior to daily line operations to verify equipment readiness and support a stable startup
- Support daily production to maintain operational availability, yield, and overall line performance
- Document major breakdowns, abnormal conditions, root causes, and implemented countermeasures
- Lead and support structured problem‑solving activities to eliminate recurring issues and improve process reliability
- Partner with production, maintenance, and other support groups to strengthen performance and resolve technical issues
- Punchlist item identification, root cause analysis, and countermeasure management
- Participate in a mentor program to grow as an engineer and learn from others within the department
- Complete internal and external training
- Be able to work weekend and shutdown work (such as July and December holidays) as needed
- Business travel up to 15%
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or similar technical field
- Experience in production preparation of manufacturing and execution of capital projects, preferably from initial planning to start of production (co‑op experience included)
- Experience and/or exposure to the battery manufacturing processes
- Experience in creating and implementing processes in a manufacturing environment (co‑op experience included)
- Experience in detailed schedule usage and utilization on capital projects (co‑op experience included)
- Budget experience tracking and usage for manufacturing projects (co‑op experience included)
- AutoCAD experience, including the ability to read, interpret and modify 2D drawings
- Advanced in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical or Manufacturing Engineering / Technology
- Toyota Production Engineering Co‑Op experience
- Toyota Production Engineering experience
- Working knowledge of NFPA, NEC, ANSI, OSHA or other government regulated standards
- Toyota Business Practice experience
- PLC experience, including the ability to read, investigate and troubleshoot
- Japanese language ability (Rank N1‑N5)
