The Paint Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and leading a team of direct labor associates in the manufacture and assembly of products, components and parts for custom fire and rescue vehicles. The Supervisor ensures production schedules, cost targets and quality standards are met, with emphasis on highly skilled processes. The role requires strong technical capability to assist operators in troubleshooting and problem resolution, and leadership in safety, quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities:
  • Daily assignments of hourly production personnel to meet schedule commitments and cycle time requirements; prioritize customer workflow within the department to ensure timely task completion.
  • Build weekly production schedules to manufacture correct units and plan the layout and disassembly teams to ensure chassis are painted and layouts are complete before line start.
  • Ensure all quality, regulatory and ISO requirements are met; take appropriate actions to meet requirements, including stopping production if needed.
  • Review work within the department to ensure technical accuracy and that workmanship meets customer requirements, engineering design expectations, shop orders, drawings, BOMs, work instructions and quality documentation.
  • Uphold safety and environmental compliance; enforce OSHA and company policies; actively participate in safety improvement activities.
  • Maintain accurate and timely attendance records for department personnel.
  • Enforce company policies and procedures; foster consistent employee relations; recommend rewards/recognition and initiate disciplinary actions as required.
  • Provide technical expertise for problem resolution and liaison with Materials, Engineering, Sales Administration, Product Management to determine root cause and corrective actions.
  • Input on staffing requirements; assist in developing area budget goals for personnel, equipment, and supplies.
  • Train and develop departmental personnel; define job functions, training plans, and maintain the department qualification and training skill matrix; evaluate employees for skill development and compliance.
  • Lead continuous improvement activities within the department; implement Lean basics (Waste identification, 5S, Standard Work, Visual Management); participate in Kaizen events and value stream map creation and goal setting for department product lines.
  • Read and understand work orders for the paint area; determine complexity and adjust schedules accordingly; assist in paint pricing, paint repairs, and color decisions; understand the paint process end-to-end and make quality-related decisions.
Other duties may include

Perform or assist with any operations as required to maintain workflow or respond to production requirements.

Minimum Requirements
  • High School Diploma;
    Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of work-related experience or leadership capacity.
  • Experience in vehicle production or a custom manufacturing environment.
  • Detailed knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  • Thorough understanding and application of lean principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; strong team-building and conflict-resolution abilities.
  • Excellent computer skills and ability to learn company-specific systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with regulatory requirements such as NFPA, FAA, OSHA training, annual RCRA and DOT requirements.
