Position Summary
An experienced machinist able to support production through the use of manual equipment and independently solve problems. The role involves analyzing specifications, laying out metal stock, fitting and assembling parts to fabricate and repair metal‑working dies, cutting tools, fixtures, gauges, and machine hand tools. Depending on Ruger campus location, the machinist may create precision molds to support manufacturing using vertical milling centers, EDM centers, precision grinders, and 3‑D printers.
Responsibilities- Operate manual mills, lathes and grinders.
- Read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
- Select and use appropriate cutting tools.
- Create work‑holding fixtures and gauges for manufacturing and assembly.
- Apply tooling types, speeds & feeds, threading, surface finish, and tool holding (e.g., collets, chucks).
- Use micrometers, calipers, test indicators and a Cadillac gauge.
- Understand hydraulics and pneumatics in fixtures.
- Possibly use Prototrak or advanced conversational controllers (e.g., program mill), Master Cam, or CAM software.
- Work independently or with associates on the line to find solutions to problems.
- Maintain detail and quality oriented work and accurately communicate important information.
- Prioritize tasks and manage time while working under pressure with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in geometry, trigonometry, basic algebra, fractions and decimals.
- Familiarity with CAD software.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, lift up to 40 pounds and perform repetitive motions required for a machining role.

Associates are frequently required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The position can involve sitting, walking and lifting up to 40 pounds several times throughout the day. Job is performed standing all day and requires substantial movement/motion with regard to walking, bending, lifting, grasping and applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palms.
