Job Description Job Purpose

The Pastor serves as the under-shepherd of the parishioners of Cedar Falls Baptist Church by spiritually feeding, leading, and nurturing the congregation. The Pastor is primarily responsible for communicating God’s Word, ministering to spiritual needs, and providing biblical leadership for the Church. The Pastor must possess a clear spiritual calling to ministry and meet the biblical qualifications outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1–7, including being above reproach, faithful, and of good reputation.

Requirements

The Pastor shall demonstrate the biblical character and ministry qualifications described in 1 Timothy 3:1–7, Titus 1:5–9, and 1 Peter 5:1–4.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Preaching and Worship:
    Prepare and deliver biblically grounded, thought-provoking sermons for Sunday worship services that challenge the congregation to become fully devoted followers of Christ.
  • Evangelism and Outreach:
    Lead evangelism efforts through preaching, invitations during worship services, revivals, special church events, visitation, and outreach ministries.
  • Worship Programs:
    Oversee the planning of special worship programs and church events.
  • Ordinances and Fellowship:
    Administer Communion and Baptism and extend the Right Hand of Fellowship.
  • Church Leadership:
    Provide spiritual and organizational leadership for the Church, including supervising church staff, helping manage the church budget, serving as moderator during church business meetings, and collaborating with deacons and committees.
  • Ministry Growth:
    Direct plans for ministry development and church growth.
  • Christian

    Education:

    Assess educational programs and resources to ensure biblical integrity and support Bible Study, Sunday School, and other classes in teaching sound doctrine.
  • Discipleship:
    Motivate, equip, and nurture members of the Church through personal example, preaching, teaching, prayer, and Bible study.
  • Pastoral Care:
    Visit and support hospitalized, grieving, sick, and homebound Church members and families.
  • Counseling:
    Provide spiritual counseling, including guidance related to salvation, premarital preparation, crisis support, and other spiritual matters for Church members.
  • Special Services:
    Officiate weddings, funerals, and other services as needed.
Qualifications/Experience
  • Demonstrate strong leadership ability and spiritual maturity.
  • Communicate effectively through teaching, preaching, counseling, and personal interaction.
  • Have experience leading others to Christ and providing biblical counsel.
  • Be licensed and ordained for pastoral ministry.
  • Show a passion for shepherding the saints and equipping members for Christian ministry.
  • Exhibit Christlike character, including integrity, humility, fiscal responsibility, discretion, compassion, patience, gentleness, perseverance, maturity, peacefulness, encouragement, mentoring ability, and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Working Conditions
  • May be required to travel during the week to visit sick parishioners in hospitals, at home, or to support grieving families.
  • Must provide a reliable means of contact, such as a cell phone or email, for emergencies or specific parishioner needs.
Physical Requirements
  • Stand or sit for extended periods during worship services, meetings, and special events.
  • Travel to and from appointments, visits, and church-related activities as needed.
