Schedule DetailsPRN position reporting directly to the APP Manager. Schedules are developed every three months to provide coverage for PTO, FMLA, illness call‑outs, and periods of high patient census across multiple Wake Region Hospital Medicine locations. The schedule is subject to change based on operational needs, with changes communicated no later than 6:00 p.m. the day prior whenever feasible.

Position OverviewPRN Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) to provide flexible inpatient coverage across multiple Wake Region Hospital Medicine locations.
Location Coverage- Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center – Winston‑Salem
- Davie Medical Center – Bermuda Run
- High Point Medical Center – High Point
- Lexington Medical Center – Lexington
- Wilkes Medical Center – North Wilkesboro
Assignments may include day and swing shifts based on operational needs. PRN APPs assigned to a swing shift will not be scheduled for a day shift the following day. Schedule may be modified to accommodate unexpected call‑outs, emergencies, or changes in patient census, with notice provided no later than 6:00 p.m. the day prior whenever feasible.
Shift IncentivePRN APPs assigned to Wilkes Medical Center will receive a $100 shift incentive for eligible shifts.
Experience Required- Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
- Nurse Practitioners must hold a Master’s Degree or Doctorate in Nursing Practice with Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or Adult‑Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) board certification.
- Physician Assistants must hold certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA); CAQ certification preferred.
- Current license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in North Carolina.
- Current prescriptive privileges and DEA registration.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers through the American Heart Association, valid at least 90 days beyond start date.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast‑paced inpatient environment.
- Strong clinical judgment, communication, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
- Flexibility to work across multiple hospital locations and adapt to varying patient care needs.
Specialty Care Advanced Practice Providers provide concentrated services within a designated specialty, caring for both acute and chronically ill patients. The PRN Hospital Medicine APP delivers comprehensive inpatient care while providing flexible staffing support across Wake Region Hospital Medicine locations to ensure continuity of care and operational excellence.
Essential Functions- Perform initial and follow‑up medical histories and physical examinations.
- Conduct daily inpatient assessments and ongoing patient management.
- Evaluate, admit, consult, and manage hospitalized adult medicine patients.
- Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians.
- Order, interpret, and manage laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic studies.
- Prescribe medications and therapeutic interventions within scope of practice.
- Perform minor medical procedures as appropriate and within credentialing guidelines.
- Coordinate care with physicians, nursing, pharmacy, case management, specialists, and ancillary departments.
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and discharge planning activities.
- Document all patient encounters, assessments, procedures, and treatment plans accurately and timely in the electronic medical record.
- Serve as a patient advocate while promoting quality, safety, and evidence‑based care.
- Adapt quickly to varying practice locations, provider teams, and patient care environments while maintaining high standards of clinical excellence.
