Position: Hospital Medicine Full-Time NP/PA
Location: Ardmore

Position Overview

Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center (WFBMC) – Wake Hospital Medicine team is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) to join our Hospital Medicine program in Winston‑Salem, North Carolina.

Position Details
  • Daytime work schedule: 7 on / 7 off, 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
  • Weekends and holidays included in rotation.
  • 100% inpatient adult medicine.
  • Collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary healthcare team to provide high‑quality, patient‑centered inpatient care.
  • Evaluate, treat, and manage hospitalized adult medicine patients while supporting continuity of care.
  • Patient assignments and daily responsibilities may vary based on patient acuity, census, and operational needs.
Experience Required
  • Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
  • Nurse Practitioners must hold a Master’s Degree or Doctorate in Nursing Practice with Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or Adult‑Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) board certification.
  • Physician Assistants must hold certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA); CAQ certification preferred.
  • Current license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in North Carolina.
  • Current prescriptive privileges and DEA registration.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers through the American Heart Association, valid at least 90 days beyond start date.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced inpatient environment with strong critical thinking, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to perform comprehensive history and physical examinations and develop appropriate treatment plans.
  • Ability to function effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Essential Functions
  • Perform initial and follow‑up medical histories and physical examinations.
  • Conduct daily inpatient assessments and ongoing patient management.
  • Evaluate, admit, consult, and manage hospitalized adult medicine patients.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians.
  • Order, interpret, and manage laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic studies.
  • Prescribe medications and therapeutic interventions within scope of practice.
  • Perform minor medical procedures as appropriate and within credentialing guidelines.
  • Coordinate patient care with physicians, nursing, pharmacy, case management, specialists, and ancillary departments.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and discharge planning activities.
  • Document all patient encounters, assessments, procedures, and treatment plans accurately and timely in the electronic medical record.
  • Serve as a patient advocate while promoting quality, safety, and evidence‑based care.
  • Attend and participate in departmental meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and continuing education opportunities.
Physical Requirements

Frequent walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling.

Must be able to lift and support up to 35 pounds while assisting with patients, medical equipment, and supplies.

Must possess intact senses of sight, hearing, smell, touch, and finger dexterity.

Must communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Must be able to perform effectively in stressful clinical situations.

Schedule may include weekends and holidays as part of the regular 7 on / 7 off rotation.
