General Summary
The RN or LPN at Goshen Medical Center is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for the assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care of patients. The employee will utilize the nursing process by use of technology, therapeutic intervention, evidence-based practice, and coordination of care with other health team members.
Responsibilities- Obtains, verifies, and records health history of patients. Gathers pertinent health data through physical assessments and biological samples. Collects specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Provides basic patient care as ordered. Administers medications and treatments as directed. Assists other health care professionals in performing exams, diagnostic procedures and treatments, and minor medical procedures. Adheres to infection control/safety guidelines and confidentiality policies.
- Documents assessments, interventions, patient/family responses, medication dispensed/prescribed, and test results in medical records.
- Promotes wellness by providing patient education materials, communicating physician advice/instructions.
Knowledge
- Medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology. Familiarity with health care systems, regulations, policies, and functions. Understanding of documentation standards.
- Equipment, supplies, and materials needed for medical treatment. Understanding of basic laboratory procedures, including preparation and screening.
- Infectious disease management and control and safety standards.
- Reading and following written and oral medical orders.
- Initiating appropriate emergency procedures.
- Handling a number of tasks simultaneously.
- Performing blood draws.
- Using manual dexterity to perform medical treatments.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with coworkers and diverse patient populations.
- Performing mathematical calculations for drug dosages.
Phone, computer, medical charts, stethoscope, echocardiography (EKG) machine, ear-washing instruments, blood pressure cuff, speculums, and other nursing items. May involve use of walkers, wheelchairs, pulse oximetry, and oxygen tanks.
Work EnvironmentMedical exam and treatment rooms and medical offices. Environmental setting (lighting, temperature, air quality, acoustics) controlled.
Mental/Physical RequirementsOccasional exposure to communicable diseases and biohazards. Daily standing, squatting, walking, bending, and maneuvering. May require lifting up to 50 pounds to transfer/turn patient with or without assistive devices. Stress can be triggered by workload and difficult patients.
Credentials- North Carolina RN or LPN License
- CPR/BLS Certification
- Licensure and certification(s) must be current and must be maintained as a condition of employment.
- 2‑years Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse experience in a clinical setting (e.g., health care clinic, hospital, etc.)
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to multi‑task and provide administrative office assistance if necessary (e.g., answer phones, fax documents, call back patients, etc.)
- Phlebotomy experience (preferred but not required)
- Electronic Medical Record experience (preferred but not required)
