About the PositionThe NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation and parole officers who supervise sentenced people in the community.
Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation and Reentry, Special Operations, and the Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission.
Brown Creek Correctional Institution, Polkton, NC - medium custody facility housing approximately 916 male offenders.
Description of WorkThis is an anticipated vacancy for 8/1/2026. The Nurse Supervisor will ensure professional nursing care and treatment within medical policies and protocols and in compliance with Board of Nursing requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Direct supervision of all nursing staff, including staff schedules, assignments, orientation, performance improvement evaluations, and clinical competency evaluations.
- Conduct needs assessments; develop, implement, and evaluate treatment plans; provide patient care and education to offenders.
- Ensure all policies and procedures are followed and submit short and long-term care goals to leadership for review and approval.
- Perform administrative duties—including planning, organizing, and managing daily operations, quality assurance, human resources management functions, and staff development.
- Maintain effective communication and work relationships with physicians, upper-management healthcare personnel, patients, families, agencies, and others.
- Identify and address quality monitoring and performance improvement issues for the facility.
- Work any schedule as required to meet medical operational needs at the facility level.
- Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina.
- Minimum two years of nursing experience.
- Knowledge of basic nursing principles and techniques, including physical assessments, clinical judgments, treatment planning, and evaluation.
- Knowledge of medications and prescribed treatments.
- Knowledge of management and supervisory practices and procedures.
- Ability to coordinate nursing and training programs and assist in solving professional, administrative, and supervisory problems.
- Applicants must pass a background check.
Pay Range: $71,698 - $118,304.
